Drill Information

3v2 to simulate a rush to a full ice back check.

  1. Activity starts with a 3v2 at the net front with a second 3v2 waiting in the neutral zone.
  2. Coaches or players are posted at the top of the circles on each side of the net-front 3v2.
  3. On the first whistle, players battle at the net front for body positioning while one coach shoots a puck to create a rebound. Players play it out until the whistle.
  4. On the second whistle, a second puck is shot by the coach on the opposite side and players continue until the third whistle.
  5. On the third whistle, players in the neutral zone leave and rush up ice, with the original net-front 3v2 following to create a 5v5.
  6. Play out the 5v5 until a goal, stoppage of play, breakout, or whistle.

USA Hockey Goaltending Gold Level Coach Certification

This website was developed as part of the USA Hockey Goaltending Gold Certification Program. All capstone projects for the program must improve the future of the position and produce a resource that will be shared and can be repeated by all coaches across the country. The goal of this website is to inform and equip clubs and coaches to best develop their goalies, and to help all goalies reach their full potential. This website lowers the barriers to all coaches becoming goalie coaches! Sign up for a Goaltending certification course on the USA Hockey Learning Center.
